You get a design session for mobile apps and people talking very loud and very fast.

So Eric, Jeff and I decide to go for a quick beer after work, along the way Jeff invites Will to join us but Chris could not make it. We met at our favorite pub (off site office)

During the course of complaining about work, which one must always do during the first beer, I mentioned that on my 5 hour drive home from Arizona (with Bunny Bravehart) I had an idea for a mobile app - a game to be specific; and of course when I looked it up, sure enough there is an android and apple app for it already. But I might add all of them were paid apps not FREE.

Well we started to talk about all; the features we would have and we decided, as a group, to write the app any way because it gets us all into the app development area.

That was yesterday evening.

Today we have a list of 13 features we want to add to the basic game; we have chosen Android as our first target platform (to be followed by iOS, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Symbian and even Pilot/webOS); we have a prototype name; a development system chosen; and even a development group name.

We will probably not make any money along the way but have lots of fun doing it.

When you add the problems that happened with Bill Clinton while he was in office... and now Hillary is flying around the world.

]]><![CDATA[I am not blaming Global Warming, I am just saying..]]>Mon, 02 Apr 2012 16:32:24 -0800http://www.kernology.com/1/post/2012/04/i-am-not-blaming-global-warming-i-am-just-saying.htmlLast week (or was it the week before) when we were having rain (and snow in the mountains) and it was in the low 60's here in So.Cal; they were having a heat wave in Scotland that persisted for several days (you can read the story here). Elisa of Scotland does not live far from where the records were set but she tells me that it was a wee bit warmer at her house. It was like our locations has switched weather.

IT WAS SO WARM, that the Cherry tree started to blossom and thus I posted the new banner of some of the blooms.

Now, almost two weeks later we are back to 70 degree weather and SNOW has returned to Scotland. And once again it has made the news (you can read it here).

They are woven on a rigid heddle loom (2 shaft) but with pickup sticks you can make a third shaft . These will be sent to Elisa of Scotland and I will weave another set for myself.

I assembled my 36" 8-shaft table loom that has been in its box since Thanksgiving

I made another Japanese Temari Ball. The design is on opposite sides with a obi between the two as well.

I wove a silver bracelet. I have wanted to do this for over year. I did a weave called "hopsack" - not quite plain weave not quite a 2/2 twill.

And down at the weaving barn, I finished the Sock Monkey Rug! I was able to finish it yesterday after working on it for almost 3 months of Saturdays which included breaks for The Fiber Fest, The Harvest Festival, a Blacksmithing Class, and Thanksgiving.

Boxes of yarn all over the floor. Weaving shuttles, sticks, bobbins and scissors on the weaving table AND on the floor. Today was the day to clean - file, toss and put away.

Then when I was done, what did I do?

I pulled all my pearle cotton out of the closet and books off the shelves so I could finish a Temari ball that I started over FOUR years ago.

It is not my best work but it is done. It is now hanging in the door way of my office.

I am even thinking of doing another over the 4 day weekend (Christmas) while watching some television.

]]><![CDATA[Paying Attention to Tension]]>Sun, 11 Dec 2011 16:06:01 -0800http://www.kernology.com/1/post/2011/12/paying-attention-to-tension.htmlI have just finished my Rainbow Scarf and I am rather frustrated with myself as I did not pay close enough to the tension of the warp when setting up this project.

I knew I was having issues with the warp because many, many, many times I have had to unweave a few picks (a weft thread) because the adjacent warp threads were sticking to each other and causing vertical floats. I admit it, some were so far back of where I was, I left them [bad me!]

But when I cut the scarf off the loom and turned it over - I found not only vertical floats but horizontal ones as well. The more I thought about it, I began to realize that this must be caused by my shuttle going under the wefts and I did not see it through the shed (the area where you place the shuttle which is created by the raised warp and those at rest).

But how could the shuttle go under warp threads??? I think that the warp threads were sticking to each other but because of the tension being tooooo loose, these threads may have lifted slightly and the point of my boat shuttle caught it and whoops, under the warp threads it went.

Being the perfectionist I am, it tends to make me wonder that I am not the good weaver I think or would like to believe I am. Actually what it comes down it is.... experience and paying attention to the warp tension. Hey, it is a learning experience and just had my lesson.

Just off the loom, fringe still to be twisted.
